You Know its a Fun Derby Night When....

Its a beautiful day here in the Ville as we get ready for the great Run for the Roses. The town is on the collective edge of their seats as "celebrities" are everywhere (did I just see the ugly guy from 98 Degrees?). I was just watching the ESPN Derby coverage and they showed a drunk Jerry O'Connell waxing about horses and it hit me that there is really nothing like the Derby. An odd mix of horses, D list celebrities and television personalities you dont often see (well hello Hank Goldberg!) and the Derby is where it is at ladies and gents. However I question whether anything today can top yesterday. The day's oddness began with Johnny "The Freak" Renshaw, a radio host now employed by 1570 The Zone, telling me how much he loves Kentucky Sports Radio and how we are "making waves nationally." Wonder if Barry Booker will still introduce us as "The Regionally Notable" Kentucky Sports Radio? Then I went to a Derby party, and let me just say this.....if you are asking yourself, "am I at a fun Derby party?" you need to ask yourself if it tops this. In the same room at the shindig was not only former Louisville walk-on Brad Gianninninnnininniinninninniii doing the Humpty Dance, but also one of my childhood idols, the great Gimel Martinez. When Martinez walked in, I saw him and ran over to say hello. Before the two minute conversation was over, I got a Gimel Martinez hug......arent you jealous? Giannini, Martinez and Johnny Bruce.....now that is a night. As for today, great day of sports......I have Any Given Saturday in the Derby, Mayweather by decision in the fight, Jimmie Johnson at Richmond and Houston in Game 7 over the Jazz.....should be fun
