LSU has landed a commitment from 4-star EDGE K.J. Green

LSU Football’s staff lost a Top 50 commitment this week, then added another Top 50 prospect at the same position just days later.

On Sunday, Georgia 4-star EDGE K.J. Green committed to LSU, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Given one-time LSU EDGE prospect Jaiden Bryant flipped his commitment from the Tigers to Miami on Wednesday, Green’s arrival on campus the following evening became all the more important for LSU pass rushers coach Sterling Lucas.

Lucas was Green’s first offer dating back to when the now LSU commitment competed as an 8th grader at a summer camp at South Carolina at a time when Lucas held the same position with the Gamecocks.

As Green gets set to enter his senior season at Stone Mountain this fall, the relationship with Lucas never slowed. Instead, the bond between the two and Green’s family continued to build.

Alabama and in the in-state Georgia Bulldogs were among the top SEC teams who had courted Green over the past year as programs began to order out the EDGE rusher board for each team’s 2027 class.

In the end, LSU’s pitch – all things included – won Green and his family over, and the decision was only reaffirmed when they made the official visit this weekend with the Tigers.

Ahead of the visit, sources felt LSU was the team to beat and had a realistic shot at landing his commitment.

On Sunday morning, Rivals National Recruiting Experts Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons made Rivals RPM picks for Green to LSU.

Soon after, On3’s Hayes Fawcett took to social media with the breaking news.

Green, a 4-star and Top 10 EDGE rusher in America, committed to play college football for the Tigers.

Green is the No. 48 overall prospect and No. 8 EDGE in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 recruit in the Peach State.

It was commitment No. 5 for Lane Kiffin and Co., and the sixth commitment for the program’s 2027 class soon followed when Texas running back Brennen Lacey, who also made his official visit to LSU this weekend, announced his decision to commit to the Tigers as he closed out his multi-night stay on LSU’s campus.

As a junior at Stone Mountain in Georgia, Green totaled 129 total tackles, including 40 tackles for loss, and 18 sacks across 13 games, according to MaxPreps. Now, Green enters his senior years of high school with 200-plus tackles.

And, he heads into his senior season as an LSU commitment.
