Last week, LSU dominated headlines in college basketball with the signing of Hailey Van Lith, the No. 1 player in the transfer portal according to ESPN. This week, the Tigers have done it again.

LSU has picked up a commitment from Aneesah Morrow, the No. 2 player in the transfer portal. Morrow visited LSU over the weekend and shut down her recruitment soon after. She had a final three of USC, LSU, and South Carolina, but the visit to Baton Rouge sold her.

The DePaul transfer comes off of a third-team All-American season and being named one of the top 15 players in the country on the Wooden Award National Ballot.

In just her second year at DePaul, the Chicago native averaged 25.7 points, 12.2 rebounds, two assists, 2.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. Her team ended the year 16-17 overall and 8-12 in conference play. Morrow was a unanimous first-team All-Big East selection and is a versatile 6-foot-1 forward bringing even more scoring to the Tigers’ roster.

Morrow still has two more years of eligibility after playing just two years at DePaul. As a freshman, Morrow averaged 21.9 points and 13.8 rebounds before her usage rate skyrocketed in her sophomore campaign this past year. Last season, Morrow had a usage percentage of 37.6 percent. For context, Reese had a 29.5 usage percentage and Caitlin Clark was at 36.4. Morrow ended the year with the sixth most field goal attempts in the country.

LSU’s reloaded roster

Joining the national champs, Morrow won’t be pressured to score nearly as often, especially after the Tigers added scoring guard Hailey Van Lith last week from Louisville. With Van Lith, Morrow, and Angel Reese, Kim Mulkey has three All-American caliber players.

Out of high school, Morrow was considered the No. 1 player in Illinois, but wasn’t highly ranked by most outlets. She broke onto the scene and now joins Mulkey’s team as one of the best transfers in the country.

LSU still has two roster spots remaining and will be bringing in the No.1 freshman class in the country, headlined by Mijaylah Williams and Aalyah Del Rosario, two top seven players.

LSU lost LaDahzia Williams, Alexis Morris, and Jasmine Carson from last year’s title team, leaving voids on both ends to fill. Now, there’s hope that the additions of Van Lith and Morrow will create the top offense in the country.

A month after winning the national title, Mulkey has already reloaded, and potentially upgraded, her roster. The excitement is palpable. The Tigers will almost certainly be the No. 1 team in the country entering the 2023-24 season and they once again put the country on notice with a massive addition.
