Back in October, LSU cornerback Ashton Stamps parted ways with LSU and was “expected to enter the transfer portal” and now, nearly two months later, Stamps has now made that announcement. He took a redshirt in his junior season, giving him two more years of eligibility. He started all 13 games for LSU at cornerback during the 2024 season but he appeared in just three games in 2025 before leaving the program.

Former LSU coach Brian Kelly confirmed that Ashton Stamps plans to move on from the team on on an SEC teleconference call in October. He did not provide further details.

In total in his career at LSU, Ashton Stamps has logged 17 starts and 27 appearances. He has tallied 75 tackles, as well as 18 pass breakups.

“First, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game that I love. I would also like to thank my family for always supporting me through my journey as an athlete.

As I enter a new chapter in my life, I am truly grateful for LSU and the coaching staff for the opportunity to be part of this program. From the relationships I’ve developed, to the memories made on and off the field, LSU has shaped me in ways I’ll cherish forever. Thank you to my teammates, supporting staff, friends, and everyone who played a role in helping me become a better professional for the future endeavors in life. I’m grateful to have LSU be a part of me forever, and it will always be a place I’ll call home.

However, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal for my final years of eligibility. This decision wasn’t easy, but I’m excited to experience something new, challenge myself, and continue to chase my dreams. I can’t wait to see where this next chapter leads. Geaux Tigers!!!

Thanks,
Ashton Stamps

LSU started Mansoor Delane and rotated DJ Pickett and PJ Woodland at the two cornerback spots and now will look for Woodland and Pickett to lead that room once again in 2026, with secondary coach Corey Raymond leading the room once again.

Here is a quote from Stamps before the season on the talent and depth in the room:

“From the past few years, it was kind of hard for the corner group to gel together because everybody felt like they were going against each other,” Ashton Stamps said. “In reality, this year we’ve been working together as a group, getting each other better. No jealousy, none of that. …

“You’ve got freshmen coming in, veterans like Mansor (Delane) who has been at a different program and knows how to carry himself, and DJ (Pickett) coming in ready to work. He’s got great ability. We’re helping each other instead of going against each other. Some people might think it’s Mansor vs. me, or me vs. DJ, or Ja’Keem (Jackson) vs. PJ (Woodland), but it’s not like that. We’re all just working.”
