LSU football adds John Jancek to on-field staff

LSU head coach Brian Kelly has hired a new position coach.

LSU is expected to promote analyst John Jancek to an on-field coaching role, sources tell On3.

Multiple sources tell The Bengal Tiger staff that Jancek will work with the outside linebackers on defense. He will also the title of special teams coordinator.

Jancek has previously been a defensive coordinator at colleges like Tennessee, Cincinnati and Colorado State.

Brian Polian, who served as LSU’s special teams coordinator in 2022, has transitioned into an off-field role to assist with roster management, the NCAA Transfer Portal, NIL, and more.

In 2022, LSU ranked No. 130 out of 131 college football teams on ESPN’s College Football Power Index efficiency rankings for special teams.

While Jancek will work with JACK linebackers and special teams , Kelly is expected to also use a number of analysts to help coordinate and coach special teams.

LSU is expected to hire Bob Diaco as an analyst, sources tell On3. Diaco was UConn’s head coach from 2014-16. He’s also been a defensive coordinator at colleges like Notre Dame, Nebraska, Purdue and Cincinnati. Diaco has also had multiple college stops as a special teams coordinator.

LSU now has filled all 10 on-field coaching spots.

On offense, the Tigers have offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Mike Denbrock, quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan, offensive line coach Brad Davis, wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton and running backs coach Frank Wilson.

On defense, Kelly will now move into Year 2 with Matt House as linebackers coach and defensive coordinator, Jamar Cain as defensive line coach, Jancek as outside linebackers coach, Robert Steeples as cornerbacks coach and Kerry Cooks as safeties coach.
