According to On3’s Matt ZenitzFlorida A&M linebacker Isaiah Land – the FCS National Defensive Player of the Year — entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal this week. According to his Instagram, LSU offered him a scholarship and the Tigers are in pursuit.

Other programs in the mix for the 2021 Buch Buchanan Award winner include Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Texas, UCF and others.

Land is coming off a strong season for Florida A&M in 2021, as he tallied 25.5 tackles for loss to go along with 19 sacks.

A 6-foot-4, 215-pound defender, Isaiah Land – a Buffalo, New York native – made 43 total tackles last season while playing in 12 games. He recorded five sacks in a single game against South Carolina State on Oct. 9, a Rattlers’ record.

Isaiah Land could be player LSU uses one of two final spots on

LSU is still in the hunt for transfers at tight end, offensive line and now it appears edge rusher. Recruiting coordinator Brian Polian said the coaching staff is preparing its options for how to address the roster with the final spots. If the NCAA does away with signing limits, the two spots remaining could go to retooling the roster later on.

“We’re prepared for all three scenarios. It’s unlikely that if the number was back to 25 initials, there are gonna be schools like us that say can I get back to the full 85 if I’m only allowed 25 initials,” Polian said during spring practice. “Trying to set our board, identify our needs, I feel like we’re in a really good place there.”
