Texas A&M defensive back Denver Harris committed to LSU, he announced on Twitter on Thursday. The former blue-chip prospect will have four years to play three seasons remaining.

Harris played in five games this season, and was playing well, before he was suspended indefinitely for a locker room incident. He entered the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier this month and was immediately tied to LSU.

Harris made two solo tackles in his collegiate debut in the win over Sam Houston. He registered three tackles against App State. Harris added three pass breakups and three tackles at Mississippi State. He notched four tackles and one pass breakup against Alabama.

Denver Harris played high school football at Houston (Texas) North Shore, where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 23 overall recruit and No. 3 cornerback in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Coming out of high school, the former five-star prospect compared to former Colorado star Chidobe Awuzie, who plays for the Dallas Cowboys.

“Denver Harris‘ smooth movement skills and technical ability at corner are among the traits that make him a five-star prospect,” On3 director of scouting Charles Power said. “The 6-foot, 180-pounder is a fluid mover and has faced top competition while playing for one of the best high school programs in the state of Texas. We could see Harris becoming a versatile cornerback with a skill set similar to Awuzie – a 6-foot, 200-pounder with good change of direction and the ability to cover outside or in the slot.”

Denver Harris adds to LSU’s transfer haul

Harris was a Midseason On3 Freshman All-American this fall, earning recognition before off the field issues ended his time in College Station.

“Harris has been a standout among his true freshman peers,” On3 director of scouting Charles Power wrote. “The Houston North Shore product is playing a key role as a cover corner in Texas A&M’s secondary, locking horns with some talented pass-catchers. Harris has played 211 snaps for Texas A&M this season and surrendered four completions on 11 targets for just 28 yards, per Pro Football Focus. He’s also proven to be a reliable tackler, giving up just one yard after the catch.

“While he has had some learning moments, there’s certainly been more good than bad. Harris is also showing continual improvement and looks to be gaining confidence each week.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly is expecting numerous transfer additions to join the program. LSU inked 25 additions from the high school ranks and already has a few transfers committed.

“We focus strictly on recruiting to LSU, the players we want here, that we believe will be successful here and we can develop,” Kelly said on Wednesday. “That’s our mindset. We focus strictly on the job at hand and we recruit those who understand our mission to graduate champions.”
