LSU made the Final Four for Minneapolis (Minn.) Robbinsdale Cooper athlete Jaxon Howard, who set his official visits for the summer as well. The 2023 prospect included Miami, Minnesota and Michigan along with the Tigers. He’ll officially visit LSU on June 21 before his final visit, which will go to Miami.

Minnesota will host him June 10 before Michigan gets its shot June 17. LSU trails Miami and Minnesota in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine race.

LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain has recruited Howard for quite some time. Howard has made unofficial visits to his top schools this spring as well.

“He came by and spoke with my dad,” Jaxon Howard said of Cain. “He came all the way up here. It’s great, he’s recruited me at different places. I think that kind of showed me that he trusts my playing ability and who I am as a person. Continuing to build that bond with him. He’s someone who contributed to me getting my first offer at Arizona State. It’s always love for him.”

Howard plans to make a decision after his official visits are done, but he’s going to let things settle after those visits as well so he doesn’t jump at a school only based on the official visit experience.

“On the visits, we’re going to have those fancy Brazilian dinners, but when I get down there for real, I’m going to be eating on the cafeteria food with my school ID card. Trying to make sure I keep myself humbled and ready to go because the next level is going to be different than what I expect it to be. When I get on that campus, I’m nobody.”

He’s aiming to enroll early at the next level and is also focused on getting his school work in order to do that.

Jaxon Howard one of the nation’s best athletes

According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Howard ranks as the No. 100 overall prospect in the country, No. 7 tight end in the nation and No. 1 prospect in Minnesota.

As a junior in 2021, Howard finished with 13 receptions for 172 yards and three touchdowns on offense. On defense, he recorded 50 tackles, eight of which went for a loss, and six sacks.

Jaxon’s father is Willie Howard, a former defensive end at Stanford who won the Morris Award for the Pac-10’s top lineman in 1999. He was picked in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft and played two seasons before a career-ending injury.

Jaxon Howard currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $122k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
