WHAT’S UP TODAY
First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?
There was, of course, Mario Cristobal talking after the team’s Saturday scrimmage you can check out, as well as our notes off what we learned from the work. And we have more from Cristobal this morning.
To hold you over till then be sure to read an interesting look at how preseason polls have been pretty meaningless in recent years as it pertains to the ACC, with the door open for Miami to make a lot of noise this season. Perhaps having FSU and Clemson ranked ahead of UM pretty much everywhere isn’t such a big deal … at least that’s how you’ll probably feel after reading our story.
Also be sure to check out several of our new Inside The Lines features. We have one with Francis Mauigoa, who is poised for a huge Year 2, and we also have them with a couple of key freshmen – RB Jordan Lyle and WR JoJo Trader. Both could wind up playing significant roles for Miami even in a backup capacity.
Then there’s our update with PK Andy Borregales as well, as he chases the award his big brother won at Miami as the nation’s top kicker.
In recruiting?
There’s an update with four-star Miami Southridge 2026 receiver Brandon Bennett. He returned to Miami’s campus at the end of last month and updates where things stand.
Another update is with Miami (Fla.) Northwestern 2026 cornerback J’Vari Flowers. In the first few months since receiving his Miami offer, his old connection to one of the Hurricanes’ current recruiting staff members is playing a role in his Miami interest.
We also catch up with New Iberia (La.) Westgate 2025 cornerback and four-star Miami commit Jaboree Antoine for a look at him through his coach’s eyes.
Another commit we look at through his coach’s perspective is Birmingham (Ala.) Parker three-star defensive back Timothy Merritt. He’s gearing up for a big season.
Plus Miami has already hosted Miami (Fla.) Southridge 2026 center Ryan Miret on campus a handful of times this offseason. Now, as the fall season approaches, he says the Hurricanes are telling him he’s one of their top two center targets in next year’s cycle.
There’s also a recruiting Q&A with Stephen Wagner, where he answers all your mid-August questions as Miami is working to close in on another top recruiting class.
And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY
We weren’t as bad as our 7-6 record last season … Posted by cbdiddy
Re-watched the very end of our game last year at NC State at night on ACCN. Our record going into that game was 6-2 (2-2), so not too shabby for a young, growing team.
TVD was horrible that night BUT we had the ball on their 3 yd line down 6-13 with just six minutes remaining. Unfortunately we go stuffed on a 4th down run up the middle and lost our chance to tie it up late. NC State gets the ball back and quickly marches down the field thanks to one guy….James Williams. First a 15 yd horse collar penalty, then a frustration shoulder tackle that allowed a 30 yd game clinching TD. He was such a huge liability for our team.
After that it was game over, season over, 7-6 and TVD out the door.
But if we get that first down/late score and win that game to be 7-2, who knows what our final record would be. We aint that far away….
