Oddsmakers put Miami Hurricanes at +325 to join SEC as conference Musical Chairs heats up
The Big Ten and SEC have their options if they decide to expand further in conference realignment. Friday, Las Vegas oddsmakers weighed in on who could be next.
And those numbers are of major interest to the University of Miami and its fans.
If the Hurricane program were ever to leave the ACC, UM could wind up joining the SEC or Big Ten. And while some hope Notre Dame will join the ACC to solidify it as a third super conference, the oddsmakers in Las Vegas believe the program is a heavy favorite to join the Big Ten.
The odds as it relates to the Canes’?
Bovada released odds has Notre Dame at +150 to join the Big Ten, while Clemson and Florida State lead the potential SEC targets at +250 apiece. Miami is close behind in the odds it joins the SEC at +325.
What would the Hurricanes look like in the SEC?
Well, Georgia and Alabama matchups might not seem rosy for UM fans right now based on the state of the program. But with Mario Cristobal in charge perhaps it would help the Hurricanes to have these major national matchups to show where the Canes are in the big picture … and perhaps lure top recruits.
Conference change is certainly on the horizon, with super conferences forming.
Conference realignment dominoes started falling again last week when USC and UCLA announced their decisions to leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten in 2024. The moves came less than one year after Oklahoma and Texas announced their intentions to leave the Big 12 for the SEC by 2025 — kicking off the realignment carousel.

The big wild card is Notre Dame, which has largely maintained its independent status over the years, only playing in the ACC during the 2020 COVID-19-impacted season. The Fighting Irish’s TV deal with NBC has been seen as a factor in the decision to remain independent, even as rumors swirl about potentially joining a conference. But Bovada seems to think there’s a chance Notre Dame ends up in a league — and the Big Ten looks like the No. 1 option.
Here’s the full list of odds to join the Big Ten or SEC, according to Bovada.
