Things weren’t looking great for the Miami Hurricanes with Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic OL Tommy Kinsler when he came off his visit to the University of Florida the middle of June. Kinsler committed to the Gators … but quickly said he’d still go ahead with his Miami Hurricanes official visit the weekend of June 24.

And that visit ultimately ended with Kinsler decommitting from the Gators and then announcing for Miami July 28.

He stuck by that despite Florida continuing to try and push and now is confirmed signing with UM.

“As for what made it the right fit for him at Miami?

“The coaches, I love their personality,” Kinsler said. “The atmosphere – me and the coaches have a real good bond.”

Kinsler says the message he’s consistently gotten from UM coaches is that “they like my game, how physical I am on the field.”

He plans to live up to his potential to help this program get things turned around.

“The 2023 class is coming in to flip this thing around,” Kinsler said. “We all talk about it every day, just think about it every day. We’re coming in to change the program around.”

Kinsler originally landed an offer from the prior Miami staff and was quickly reoffered by the new staff when they came on board.

“He’s got all the figures and everything, is 6-6 or 6-7 and 330 pounds,” Trinity Catholic coach John Brantley said. “He’s got what those college guys are looking for in an offensive tackle. He’s got the range and the arm length, everything that makes up a perfect tackle. He’s big, thick inside, he can play everywhere. We even messed with him at center a little bit.

“He’ll be a valuable asset. … His upside is unbelievable.”

Kinser’s goals as a Miami Hurricane?

“Win the national championship,” he says. “And for myself, come in and compete, work, get the starting position.”

Also of note: Miami also has offered Kinsler’s younger brother, 2026 DE/TE prospect Jermaine Kinsler.

“I’m very excited he got it,” Tommy said. “The offer was all him. I told him once you get your first offer they’ll all start coming at you but don’t let it get to your head, stay humble and keep working.

“I would love for him to go to Miami, but it’s up to him where he goes.”
