Michigan State week 14 availability report: Maryland
DETROIT – Michigan State listed the following players as “out” for Saturday’s game against Iowa: safety Nikai Martinez, quarterback Aidan Chiles, center Matt Gulbin, cornerback Chance Rucker, running back Makhi Frazier, defensive tackle Ben Roberts, tackle Stanton Ramil, tight end Jayden Savoury, tight end Brennan Parachek, kicker Tarik Ahmetbasic, long snapper Kaden Schickel, linebacker Marcellius Pulliam, guard Kristian Phillips and defensive back Ade Willie.
The following players will miss the remainder of the year due to injury: rush end Anelu Lafaele, linebacker Brady Pretzlaff, offensive guard Luka Vincic, tackle Ashton Lepo, cornerback Andrew Brinson and defensive back Caleb Gash.
Michigan State listed guard Caleb Carter as “questionable.”
Gulbin is the only new addition to this week’s list, and it’s a tough blow for both the team and the player. Gulbin, a redshirt senior, has played more snaps than any other offensive player, and has served as a reliable leader in the middle of the Spartan offensive line.
With Gulbin unavailable, Michigan State could turn to Rakeem Johnson, Cooper Terpstra or Cole Dellinger at center. Meanwhile, if Carter is unable to play, Johnson and Gavin Broscious will be the only guards with considerable playing experience available for Michigan State. Dellinger, Terpstra or Andrew Dennis could fill in for Carter if he can’t go.
Elsewhere on the offensive line, Conner Moore and Rustin Young will continue to play a bulk of the reps at tackle with Ramil and Lepo unavailable.

Frazier will miss his third game of the season, and his second in a row. Michigan State will continue to rely on Elijah Tau-Tolliver and Brandon Tullis at the running back spot.
Michigan State coaches said they hoped to get Chiles in the game if he was healthy enough to play, but that won’t be the case on Saturday. Alessio Milivojevic will continue to start at quarterback for the Spartans. True freshman Leo Hannan will be the back-up.
Martinez will miss his third straight game, meaning Armorion Smith is likely to start in his place. Devynn Cromwell is also a candidate to see time at safety. Josh Eaton, Malcolm Bell and Aydan West will continue to receive a bulk of the snaps at cornerback with Rucker out.
