Five-star 2025 Michigan quarterback signee Bryce Underwood has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Michigan.

Underwood passed for 2,321 yards and 30 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He also rushed for 582 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to leading Belleville (Mich.) High to a 10-2 record and a playoff appearance.

“Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes for their success on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The award distinguishes Underwood as Michigan’s best high school football player, and he joins an impressive group of alumni that spans CEOs, coaches and star athletes such as Emmitt Smith (1986-87, Escambia High School, Fl.), Peyton Manning (1993-94, Isidore Newman School, La.) and DJ Lagway (2023-24, Willis High School, Texas),” Gatorade announced via a press release.

Underwood also won the award last season.

Ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 overall prospect nationally, Underwood originally committed to LSU in January but flipped his pledge to Michigan this fall. He signed with the Wolverines on Wednesday and is set to enroll early.

At 6-foot-4, 214 pounds, Underwood is considered by many as a generational prospect at the position. He will have an opportunity to compete for Michigan’s starting quarterback job as a true freshman.
