Trey Wilson faced his toughest test of the season last week.

The rising 2023 edge rusher out of Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial was tasked with finding a way around elite offensive lineman Markis Deal. Both prospects enjoyed battling against each other throughout the night.

“Markis and I go back,” Wilson said. “He’s definitely a great player. It was good to go against great competition. It’s better to get that kind of practice now rather than later. We’re both DI prospects, so we’re going to be seeing the same thing at the next level.”

On the recruiting front, Wilson has established himself as one of the best prospects in the Lone Star State, with offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Michigan and a handful of other FBS programs.

Michigan offered early and hosted him for a visit over the summer. Now, Wilson is planning to be back in Ann Arbor for a second trip when the Wolverines play host to rival Ohio State.

“I can’t wait to get back up there,” he said. “It looks like they have a great game day atmosphere. The fanbase is really supportive. I know the rivalry goes way back. I’ve seen the videos, but it’s not like getting to actually be there in person.”

Wilson has been paying close attention to Michigan this fall and is extremely impressed with the Wolverines are playing on the defensive side of the ball.

“I’ve been really impressed,” Wilson said. “The defense has been stout and really physical. That’s what I like to see — just being able to dominate along the line and getting a great pass rush.”

New Michigan defensive analyst Ryan Osborn has been leading the way in Wilson’s recruitment. The two are developing a strong relationship.

“We’ve connected a couple of times since Sept. 1,” Wilson said. “He’s just let me know that they are still thinking of me. I’ve been sending him my tape. It’s been great. I just like his energy and his personality. It’s unbeatable.”

Wilson also has a connection to the Michigan program through his former teammate, Ike Iwunnah, who signed with the Wolverines last cycle.

“Ike is loving it up there,” Wilson said. “He’s just trusting the process. He knows he has to wait his turn. But overall, he’s enjoying it. That really gives me reassurance about Michigan.”

At 6-foot-3, 231 pounds, Wilson is not yet ranked.
