LOOK: Michigan unveils necklace commemorating win over Ohio State

Michigan just added even more bling to its collection. In a Friday afternoon post, the Wolverines gave us the first look at their new necklace which memorializes the 42-27 win over bitter rival Ohio State in 2021.

The pendant’s front side displays Michigan’s famous winged helmet with “Team 142” written inside its facemask. There’s also a nod to “The Game” marking win No. 975 in program history. On the back, a lopsided final score is engraved above the block “O” — but with a minor twist. Three lines of a maize wolverine scratch run through the Buckeyes logo, and it looks as if the Michigan mascot took a piece of this chain as its own, too.

It all came from a collaboration between Aaron Bills (Director of Football Creative), DeAnna McDaniel (Executive Assistant to the Head Football Coach) and Jim Harbaugh himself. Regardless of takes on the piece, no idea would’ve been constructed without Hassan Haskins’ five touchdowns and Aidan Hutchinson’s three sacks leading U-M to its first victory against Ohio State since 2011. Michigan finished the 2021 season with a 12-2 record, a Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff appearance.

Michigan-Ohio State viewership

Fun fact – “The Game” broadcast averaged 15.89 million total viewers, easily the most-watched college football game during the 2021 regular season. Alabama-Auburn, the only rivalry that can remotely compare, pulled an average of 10.37 million. For reference: ABC’s broadcast of the NBA Finals Game 1 averaged 8.1 million viewers, according to TVLine. What about the most-watched broadcast series, you ask? Well, that’s NCIS. The show averages 10.97 million per episode. College football… there’s nothing like it.
