Michigan Wolverines head basketball coach Juwan Howard met with the media Thursday morning to preview his team’s game at Illinois Friday night and discuss the Maize and Blue’s return to action after missing two games due to COVID-19 protocols.

Howard provided an update on the health status of his team.

“Right now, we’ve had some improvement health-wise with our staff members,” he revealed. “We had one guy from the staff return, another guy still out. We also have a couple players that have returned to practice, which is good to see. We’ve also had some guys come out of quarantine; it was good to see some beautiful faces, some smiles on some guys’ faces.

“Today, we’re going to hopefully have a good practice and a healthy one, which is the most important thing at this moment. And we’ll see when we get ready to get on the bus which guys will be available for tomorrow’s matchup versus Illinois.”

The Wolverines are 7-6 and searching for a marquee win in Big Ten play, after starting 1-2 with a win at Nebraska and losses to Minnesota and Rutgers. The road doesn’t get any easier, but on the bright side, opportunities to pick up big victories are there, starting Friday in Champaign. Michigan will host Maryland next Tuesday, before traveling to Indiana Sunday and hosting Northwestern the following Wednesday.
