Michigan And The NBA Draft

The 2022 NBA Draft happens on Thursday night in Brooklyn with a pair of Michigan Wolverines in consideration to be selected. Forward Caleb Houstan and big man Moussa Diabate come into the night as U-M’s potential draftees.

Each spent only a single season in Ann Arbor and there were plenty of questions about the decisions made. However, Thursday will be an opportunity to fulfill NBA dreams and at least one of them should do so.

Coming into the night, Houstan is the Wolverine that feels like a lock to be selected. Some speculate he has a promise from a team that he will be drafted. This could have him come off the board anywhere from the late first round into the middle of the second.

Diabate’s status is a little less certain. He lit up the NBA Combine, but his athleticism is about the only thing that consistently shows up on film.

Houstan, who was a five-star signee and No. 10 prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, started 34 games at Michigan this season. He averaged 10.1 points, four rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Houstan shot 38.4 percent from the field with a 35.5-percent mark from three-point range.

Diabate was Michigan’s other five-star addition in 2021 and started 26 of 32 games for the Wolverines. He averaged nine points and six rebounds per game while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor. Like Houstan, Diabate was also considered a potential lottery prospect, but he looks more likely to come off the board way late, if at all.
