Michigan football is well into the offseason and waiting on the dust to settle on changes to the program. Downtime brings about transfers, NFL Draft decisions, coaching changes and more.

Here, we round up all of the moves in one convenient location. This will be updated throughout Michigan’s offseason.

NFL draft entrants

Aidan Hutchinson, defensive end

Hutchinson technically had eligibility remaining at Michigan given the COVID pause and injury suffered in 2020. His play throughout the 2021 campaign never left any doubt he would be cashing in and entering the draft. Hutchinson set a program record with 14 sacks this season and is a potential No. 1 overall pick.

David Ojabo, linebacker

The third-year linebacker decided to cash in on his rising NFL stock after an 11-sack season. Most analysts have the Michigan pass rusher topping out somewhere in the top 15 picks, which made it a near no-brainer to go. He has work to do developing into an every-down player. A pro franchise should be able to get that out of him.

Ojabo was a four-star prospect and the No. 244 overall player in the 2019 class, per the On3 Consensus.

Daylen Baldwin, wide receiver

Baldwin had a long road to Michigan, beginning his career at Morgan State and Jacksonville State. He turned heads at a camp last summer and earned a spot with the Wolverines. Baldwin had 17 catches for 256 yards and two touchdowns in his lone campaign with the Wolverines. He will look to catch on with an NFL team at some point this offseason.

Christopher Hinton, defensive tackle

This one was legitimately surprising. The former On3 Consensus four-star recruit and No. 36 player in the 2019 class developed into a solid contributor this season. He has not shown up on 2022 NFL Draft lists but is rolling the dice and taking his talents to the pro level. The honorable mention All-Big Ten selection played in 31 career games with 18 starts.

Daxton Hill, safety

The On3+ Consensus five-star recruit made his status official by declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft on Jan. 6. He had two seasons of eligibility remaining in Ann Arbor but was routinely showing up as a fringe first-round prospect in mock drafts throughout the season. Hill finished his career with 22 starts in 32 career games played. He was an All-Big Ten performer in 2021 and had four career interceptions.

Hassan Haskins, running back

Haskins was in his fourth season at Michigan but had as many as two seasons of eligibility remaining. His play in 2021 made it unlikely that he would return, earning himself a Senior Bowl invite and emerging as a mid-round draft prospect. Haskins was an All-American in 2021 and finished the year with 1,327 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns.

Vincent Gray, cornerback

Gray declared for the 2022 NFL Draft on Jan. 8 after four seasons spent in Ann Arbor. He still had two years of eligibility remaining due to the COVID pause and a redshirt year. Gray was a third-team All-Big Ten honoree in 2021 and started 20 of 34 career games at corner.

Andrew Stueber, offensive tackle

Another season could have been on the table for the veteran lineman, but he decided to make things official and head to the NFL. Most outlets have him rated as a mid-round pick.

Transfers out

Anthony Solomon, linebacker (Arizona)

Solomon was recruited to play the VIPER position in Don Brown’s defense but was never able to find a role under Mike Macdonald this season. He played in 23 games in three years with only 42 snaps on defense. Solomon entered the portal on Jan. 3 and announced his transfer to Arizona on the same day.

Darion Green-Warren, cornerback (Nevada)

Green-Warren was a former four-star prospect but never saw the field at Michigan in his two seasons in Ann Arbor. The Harbor City, California native entered the portal on Jan. 3.

George Johnson, cornerback (UMass)

Johnson was a three-star recruit out of high school, according to On3’s consensus, and ranked as the No. 833 overall prospect in the 2019 class. He played in five career games in three seasons in Ann Arbor after switching from wide receiver. Johnson entered the portal on Jan. 5. Johnson announced his transfer to play for former U-M defensive coordinator Don Brown at UMass on Jan. 16.

Andre Seldon, cornerback (New Mexico State)

Seldon, a Belleville, Michigan native, was a former four-star recruit. He played in two games in two seasons with the Wolverines. Seldon announced he was in the portal on Jan. 5.

Dan Villari, quarterback (Syracuse)

Villari, a former three-star quarterback in the 2020 recruiting cycle, appeared in the portal on Jan. 6. He was a late addition to the 2020 class after quarterback recruit JD Johnson medically retired. Villari appeared in three games at Michigan and was the third-string quarterback to Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy during the 2021 season.

Chuck Filiaga, offensive lineman (Minnesota)

Filiaga, a former four-star recruit in the 2017 class, entered his name into the portal on Jan. 7. He appeared in 39 career games at Michigan and made 11 starts split between left and right guard. Filiaga has one season of eligibility remaining thanks to a redshirt year in 2017 and a COVID pause in 2020. He will spend the 2022 season with PJ Fleck at Minnesota.

Sammy Faustin, defensive back

The defensive back was away from the team for the 2021 season due to medical reasons and elected to enter the transfer portal on Jan. 27. He played in nine career games at Michigan.

Jordan Morant, defensive back

Morant played in eight games last season on special teams and played one game at safety, earning one tackle. He did not play as a true freshman in 2020. Morant came to Michigan as a four-star recruit and the ninth-rated safety in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Consensus.

Jack Stewart, defensive line

Stewart was a former consensus three-star recruit out of New Canaan, Conn., arrived on campus in 2019. He did not seen any game action in his three years with the program.

Transfers into Michigan football

Olusegun Oluwatimi, center (Virginia)

Michigan football added a huge piece to its 2022 offensive line in Oluwatimi, who was a Rimington Award finalist at Virginia in 2021. He projects to slide into the role vacated by Andrew Vastardis. Oluwatimi announced his transfer on Dec. 27.

Staff departures

Courtney Morgan, director of player personnel (Washington)

Michigan lost its former player and head recruiting figure in Morgan after one season on the job. He moved back out west to join Kalen DeBoer’s staff at Washington. The move was confirmed on Dec. 6.

Shaun Nua, defensive line coach (USC)

Nua chose to depart Michigan after three seasons to join Lincoln Riley’s staff at USC. The news was first reported on Jan. 5.

Mike Macdonald, defensive coordinator (Baltimore Ravens)

Michigan’s one-year rental of its defensive coordinator came to pass with John Harbaugh tabbing Macdonald to replace Wink Martindale in Baltimore.

Josh Gattis, offensive coordinator (Miami Hurricanes)

Following the announcement that Harbaugh would return to Michigan, Gattis made the decision to make a lateral move (with a pay raise) to join Mario Cristobal at Miami. The Wolverines elevated Sherrone Moore (offensive line coach) and Matt Weiss (quarterbacks coach) to co-offensive coordinator, in addition to Mike Hart adding the title of run game coordinator.

Michigan football staff additions

Albert Karschnia, director of recruiting operations (Central Michigan)

Michigan filled the role left behind by Morgan with Karschnia, who had previously been a staffer under Jim Harbaugh. Karschnia spent the previous five seasons as the director of player personnel at Central Michigan. The last three years were spent working under Jim McElwain. Michigan officially announced his hiring on Dec. 22.

Mike Elston, defensive line coach (Notre Dame)

The Wolverines poached one of the best position coaches in the country and a skilled recruiter to fill the vacated DL spot on Harbaugh’s staff. He will also take on recruiting coordinator duties.

Jesse Minter, defensive coordinator (Vanderbilt)

Harbaugh went back to the Ravens ties for Macdonald’s successor to grab Minter from Vanderbilt after spending a year with Clark Lea. Minter’s background is more with the defensive backs, but should allow Michigan to stay in the same (or a similar) scheme to what it was running under Macdonald.

Tom Gamble, Director of Player Personnel (Jacksonville Jaguars)

Michigan made an addition to the support staff department with the hiring of Gamble. He held the same role with Harbaugh with the San Francisco 49ers and has three decades of NFL experience.

Denard Robinson, Assistant Director of Player Personnel

The former Michigan quarterback, who has worked with Gamble in the past, also joined the program and gave it another alum on the support staff.
