Michigan has added another key piece to the puzzle.

Rising 2023 West Bloomfield (Mich.) high wide receiver Semaj Morgan committed to Michigan on Wednesday night following his weekend visit for The Game.

“Michigan has always been on top because they never disappoint me,” Morgan said. “Every time I’m there, I enjoy it. I have a strong bond with Coach Bell (Ron Bellamy). I like being around him and Coach (Josh) Gattiis. I like Coach (Nate) Crutchfield, Coach (Steve) Casula and Coach (Jim) Harbaugh, too. They all try to create a bond with me.”

The West Bloomfield (Mich.) High product loved his time on campus and was thrilled when the Wolverines knocked off rival Ohio State for the first time in almost a decade.

“It was fun, man,” Morgan said. “It was freezing. I wasn’t prepared for the weather, but the game was amazing. I was ecstatic when Michigan was beating Ohio State. I don’t like Ohio State. I’m from Michigan. I grew up a Michigan fan. I was happy they won. I was going crazy.”

Morgan, who has been to multiple games this fall, paid close attention to the Michigan offense throughout the day. While the Wolverines didn’t put up gaudy passing numbers, Morgan still liked what he saw from the unit as a whole.

“I liked the game plan,” Morgan said. “I was going crazy when (Hassan) Haskins scored five touchdowns. Michigan knew Ohio State’s box wasn’t that strong. They used that to their advantage. All their touchdowns were on the ground. They exposed Ohio State’s weaknesses.”

Michigan’s Cade McNamara has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country this season. However, JJ McCarthy is waiting in the wings, and Morgan is excited to pair up with him down the line.

“I love JJ,” Morgan said. “That’s one of my favorite quarterbacks. I love watching him throw. He spins it. I don’t know how he does it, but he does. I like JJ’s game a lot.”

Morgan added that he’s also been impressed by another true freshman — former teammate and emerging running back Donovan Edwards.

“I love that Donovan is playing early,” Morgan said. “He had a one-handed catch in the game. He looked like me (laughs). It was a proud little brother moment for me. He had 10 catches for 170 yards before that. He’s doing great.”

Morgan is the third commit in Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class, joining kicker Adam Samaha and On300 defensive lineman Joel Starlings.

Morgan picked Michigan over offers from Marshall, Memphis, Missouri, Ole Miss, West Virginia and others.
