Former Michigan Wolverines football quarterback Tom Brady checked in as the 16th-highest paid athlete in the world on Sportico’s top 100 list. Not only is Brady set to be one of the highest paid players in the NFL, but he’s also raking in money from endorsement deals, too, which are included in the projections.

“The top 100 highest-paid athletes in the world include players from 10 sports and 24 countries,” Sportico wrote. “They earned $4.46 billion in total income, including $3.24 billion in salary and prize money, as well as $1.23 billion off the field or court from endorsements, licensing, memorabilia and appearances over the last 12 months, based on Sportico estimates.”

According to Sportico, the former Michigan standout is set to make $18.4 million from his salary with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per Sportico, plus $40 million from endorsement deals.

That $58.4 million total ranks 16th overall and second among football players, behind Buffalo Bills signal-caller Josh Allen ($62.5 million). Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson slotted 17th ($55.5 million). Twenty one NFL players made the cut, with other notable athletes being Aaron Rodgers at No. 21, Patrick Mahomes at No. 26 and Kirk Cousins at No. 27.

In late April, the former Michigan signal-caller restructured his contract heading into the final year of his deal in 2022, and according to The Athletic‘s Greg Auman, a Bucs insider, Brady’s compensation from football may actually be higher than the $18.4 million Sportico is projecting.

“Brady made $29.4 million last year, counting incentives,” Auman wrote in a tweet. “He was due to make $25.4 million this year with another $4.5 million in incentives, and Bucs reworked the deal to make it $30 million for the year. Very close to what he made last year.

“Brady has the $15 million deferred bonus from last year, plus a $1.12 million veteran minimum base salary, plus a $13.88 million roster bonus that for cap purposes is split over this year and four voidable years. The i incentives that were in the deal for this year are now gone.

“Now, Brady’s voidable years and cap savings will created considerable dead money under the 2023 salary cap for Bucs: $35.1 million as it stands. If he retires or signs an extension before March, that can be split between 2023 and 2024 to make it more manageable.”

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Brady is worth $250 million. Meanwhile, his wife, super model Giselle Bündchen, has a $400 million net worth, per the same site.

2021 was one of Tom Brady’s best NFL seasons

While his team was bounced in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, the former Michigan quarterback enjoyed one of his best seasons of his 22-year career.

The five-time NFL passing touchdowns leader finished second in voting for the league’s MVP award, after completing 67.5 percent of his passes for an NFL-best 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns (also a league-high) during the regular season. He was selected to his 15th Pro Bowl.
