Behind a balanced scoring attack, Michigan basketball blew out Pittsburgh, 91-60, Wednesday night in the Legends Classic at Barclays Center. With Arizona State beating VCU in the night cap, U-M will take on one of its former players, guard Frankie Collins, Thursday night at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Ball movement was the name of the game for the Wolverines. It was spectacular, with 21 assists on 35 made shots to just 6 turnovers. For context, Michigan had 20-plus assists in just two games and had assists on just 32.1 percent of its made shots last season. It’s committed 6 or fewer turnovers in just seven games under head coach Juwan Howard, who took over the program beginning in 2019-20. Keep in mind that 4 of Michigan’s turnovers came during garbage time, in the last four minutes of the game.

It started with Dickinson getting it back out to the perimeter, but as the game went on the rest of the Wolverines shared the ball well, too, frequently making the extra pass.

Michigan’s 1.36 points per possession were the most the Wolverines have generated in a game since a 103-91 win over Iowa Dec. 6, 2019, Howard’s first-ever Big Ten game as U-M’s head coach.

Michigan graduate center Olusegun Oluwatimi has been selected as one of seven semifinalists for the Outland Trophy, awarded to the best college football interior lineman in the nation.

From a U-M release:

Oluwatimi has made 10 starts for the Wolverines and helps direct the nation’s No. 4 rushing attack which averages 251.4 yards per game (No. 1 Big Ten) and has totaled 31 rushing touchdowns. The team averages 6.0 yards per sack-adjusted carry while supporting Heisman Trophy candidate Blake Corum, who is third in the nation in rushing and tied-first in touchdowns. Oluwatimi has been a model of consistency for U-M and has helped keep the level of play high across the line. In the pass game, U-M has permitted only 12 sacks across 10 games, and Oluwatimi has been charged with just six pressures (no sacks) all season. The Outland Trophy finalists will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Quote Of The Day

“Sherrone is — just from a personality standpoint, from a leader standpoint, like just how he leads men — very, very consistent in his approach. He brings a tremendous amount of energy. Not that he doesn’t coach his guys hard, but I think he coaches from a very positive mindset, which I think the guys really appreciate.”
