Michigan Director of Player Personnel Courtney Morgan appears to be on his way to Washington.

Per Dave Mahler of KJR Seattle, Morgan is leaving Michigan for the same position at Washington under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. The Wolverine can confirm that Morgan is in fact gearing up to join the Huskies, after reporting that the move was a strong possibility in last Friday’s Inside The Fort.

Morgan previously worked under DeBoer at Fresno State.

Still, this move comes as a bit of a surprise. Morgan was rumored to be under consideration for an on-field position at Washington last week. According to Mahler’s report, this would be a lateral switch.

Michigan is obviously having a fantastic season on the field, clinching a berth in the College Football Playoff over the weekend. On top of that, Morgan suited up for the Wolverines in the early 2000s and was instrumental in helping U-M build its 2022 recruiting class.

Morgan played a key role in the recruitments of Michigan commits like On300 edge rusher Kevonte Henry, On300 defensive back Zeke Berry and consensus four-star quarterback Jayden Denegal, three-star defensive lineman Mason Graham and three-star linebacker Deuce Spurlock.

Morgan was also very active in the recruitment of five-star offensive lineman Josh Conerly, who remains one of Michigan’s top overall priorities this cycle.

The loss of Morgan is a blow to Michigan’s recruiting department, which was completely overhauled this offseason with the additions of Morgan and Director of On-Campus Recruiting Christina DeRuyter as well as the promotion of staffer Aashon Larkins to Director of Recruiting.

“His impressive track record will help our program tremendously,” Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said of Morgan at the time of his hire. “I’m looking forward to his fresh perspective and new insights from a recruiting and player development standpoint.”

A Los Angeles native, Morgan previously made stops at Fresno State, San Jose State and UCLA. He replaced former Michigan Director of Player Personnel Matty Dudek, who is now at Mississippi State, in April of this year.

Michigan currently holds 20 commits and has the No. 16 ranked 2022 recruiting class in the country.
