Michigan landed a commitment from rising 2025 Buford (Ga.) High linebacker Mantrez Walker on Saturday evening.

Walker picked Michigan over fellow finalists Florida, LSU and Penn State. He also held offers from Arkansas, Missouri, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and others.

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland shares his thoughts on Walker and what his commitment means in the video below.

Walker notched an offer from Michigan in December and made an unofficial visit last month. It was on that trip where Walker fell in love with the program and gave the Wolverines a verbal pledge.

“Michigan is the winningest program in college football history,” Walker said. “My class could be the first to reach 1,000 wins. So for them to be a winning program, their defensive style, and defensive scheme, I feel like I can come in and make a big impact early.”

At 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, Walker is not yet ranked.

Walker is the second commit in Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, which also features Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep cornerback Chris Ewald, who sided with the Wolverines in December.

Walker has an On3 NIL Valuation of $6.7K with 2.6K followers across all platforms. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
