NC State adds commitment from 3-star S Markel Aguirre

NC State’s official visits are paying off. The Wolfpack landed a commitment from Locust Grove (Ga.) Luella three-star safety Markel Aguirre in the middle of his trip to Raleigh on Saturday night.
Aguirre, who stands at 6-foot, 185 pounds, posted 57 total tackles with 14 for a loss, 2 interceptions and a pass defended in his junior campaign. That stat line led to the safety picking up more than 15 offers in a two-week span during the January contact period.
Even though more than a dozen schools competed for Aguirre’s services, NC State emerged as one of his leaders going into the spring. The Wolfpack beat out the likes of Miami and USF to nab the Peach State defensive back.
Miami was viewed as the team to beat in Aguirre’s recruitment since his older brother, Raul, plays for the Hurricanes. But the safety’s relationship with NC State co-defensive coordinator Charlton Warren seemed to help the Wolfpack overcome Miami’s momentum.

“I’ve been talking with Coach Warren, he’s a very good dude,” Aguirre told TheWolfpacker.com in February. “I love NC State.”
Warren’s recruiting efforts were so strong that Aguirre, who was set to announce his commitment next Saturday, decided to do so a week early. Now, he will get to share the ACC with his older brother, looking to help the Wolfpack past the Hurricanes in the years to come.
Aguirre is NC State’s seventh pledge of the 2026 cycle. He joins Buford (Ga.) three-star running back Dylan McCoy, Paramus (N.J.) Catholic three-star linebacker Jordan Moreta, Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal three-star tackle Brady Sakowitz, Baltimore (Md.) Milford Mill Academy three-star safety Koby Sarkodie and Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan three-star quarterback Jacob Smith.
