The Wolfpacker’s Tuesday Morning Newsstand

NC State kicker Christopher Dunn continued his All-American-caliber season last week against UNC. While he did miss a field goal for the first time this season, he accounted for 12 total points on 3 field goals and 3 extra points, setting a new ACC career scoring record and picking up a conference specialist of the week honor as a result.

Two of his field goals came during a pair of tense overtime duels with the Tar Heels, but he did not waver, hitting both attempts with composure as he has all season. He was instrumental in the win as the Wolfpack kept pace with North Carolina’s explosive offense.

This the second time Dunn has been honored by the ACC this season, and the accolades likely are not stopping any time soon, as the graduate student is a near-lock to make the All-ACC first team that will be released Tuesday afternoon. He made 24 of 25 field goal attempts during the regular season, including 2 from more than 50 yards, and hit all 30 of his extra points to rack up 102 total points.

Tweets of the day

Former NC State running back Zonovan Knight had a breakout game with the Jets over the weekend, racking up a record-setting 103 yards from scrimmage in his debut.

Wolfpack guard Jarkel Joiner won ACC Player of the Week after averaging 19.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 4 games last week in the Bahamas.

Wolfpack women’s basketball is the Associated Press’ No. 12 team this week.

The ACC/B1G challenge comes to an end after this season, with the ACC/SEC challenge set to replace it next year.

Quote of the day

This quote is a throwback to the summer, with Wolfpack men’s basketball assistant coach Joel Justus discussing what Joiner brings to the team.

“Knowing Jarkel Joiner and seeing him at Ole Miss on the other side of the fence, to now being in the foxhole with him, is fun,” Justus said. “Because you know how he can kind of impact the game, you know how he can get to spots on the floor, you know how he can make others better and at the same time create for himself.

“He has an elite level of spirit about him. He’s a guy that comes in the gym and, immediately, the excitement is heightened, the mood is lifted.”
