TheWolfpacker.com’s Monday Morning Newsstand

NC State is fewer than 100 days until kickoff and, with summer officially beginning Monday, there are just over 3 months until Wolfpack fans watch the program take on UConn Aug. 31. Looking towards the Pack’s 2023 season, On3’s Jesse Simonton analyzed the ACC’s projected win totals provided by  DraftKings Sportsbook.

The betting website set NC State’s over/under at 6.5 wins, which On3 deemed as too low. In 10 seasons as the Wolfpack head coach, Dave Doeren has won at least 7 games 8 times.

Dave Doren managed to guide NC State to eight wins a year ago playing four different quarterbacks,” Simonton wrote. “With stability at the position now, coupled with a schedule that features almost all of NC State’s toughest games (most winnable) all at Carter-Finely Stadium (Notre Dame, Louisville, Clemson, Miami and North Carolina), this number is slightly too low.”

Simonton also mentioned that quarterback Brennan Armstrong will be reuniting with offensive coordinator Robert Anae, who helped the former UVA signal-caller play the best season of his career in 2021. He threw for 4,449 yards and 31 touchdowns that year.

Additionally, almost every starter on the Wolfpack defense has played significant snaps for the program over the years so, despite a ton of departing experience, defensive coordinator Tony Gibson’s squad should be ready to play at an elite level once again.

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from Tony Altuner, the father of Kyle Altuner— a priority three-star offensive line prospect for the Pack.

“The culture seemed really good,” Altuner said. “It was very much like a blue collar culture. I think there was even a statement that was on the wall, that [head coach Dave Doeren] had, that had something to do with a blue collar-feel, working hard. We liked that a lot. We don’t need a lot of frills and fancy stuff. Kyle’s a grinder, and he works hard and he just wants to be able to play at the next level.”
