NC State Newsstand: Wolfpack lands just outside of top-25 polls

The Wolfpacker’s Monday Morning Newsstand
NC State bounced back from its first losing streak of the season in the best way possible— traveling to North Carolina and defeating the in-state rival in dramatic, double overtime fashion. The Tar Heels went into the matchup ranked No. 17 in the College Football Playoff poll, so this was the Pack’s second ranked win of the season.
UNC also started the week ranked No. 18 in the Associated Press Poll and No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The prestigious and exciting win by NC State almost made up for the team’s losses to Boston College and Louisville, with the Wolfpack slotting into the “others receiving votes” list this week.
Going off of the vote totals, NC State is No. 27 in the AP Poll and No. 28 in the Coaches Poll. Because of that, it looks like the program could finish the year as a top-25 team, despite starting four quarterbacks this season, if it can pull off an impressive bowl win.

NC State head coach Dave Doeren might have had the quote of the year when talking to ABC’s Dave Pasch about North Carolina.
Ben Finley also had a great quote about the Tar Heels following the victory.
After the win, Doeren saw the crowd of NC State fans in the crowd and showed off his “light it red” shirt.

“I think it just proves the staying power that our guys have,” Doeren said. “The resiliency, the toughness, the grit, the love, and I told him all week ‘Nobody’s going to care about anything other than this win when we win this game. This will make a lot of things feel better.’ It’s a 365 day you-know-what sandwich that the other school gets to eat, and we didn’t want to eat it. We wanted to have that, and we wanted to finish with that pride.”
