NC State OL Val Erickson to enter transfer portal
Even though NC State is just over a week away from playing in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa, Fla., the Wolfpack’s first player to prepare to enter the transfer portal has arrived.
Redshirt junior offensive lineman Val Erickson intends to enter the portal when it opens on Jan. 2, On3’s Pete Nakos reported Monday night. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Erickson, a former Missouri transfer, spent the past two seasons with the Wolfpack in a reserve role. He made two starts in the 2024 campaign, while he logged 14 total appearances during his time in Raleigh.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound guard logged a career-high 62 offensive snaps at left guard in the Wolfpack’s 26-21 Military Bowl loss to East Carolina last December. He compiled just 110 total offensive snaps as one of the team’s top reserve offensive linemen this fall as he logged snaps at both guard and tackle.
Erickson played a season-high 39 total offensive snaps at Duke in Week 4 as a part of the Wolfpack’s right guard rotation. He was used sparingly after that, though he appeared in each of the last three regular season games at right tackle due to injuries throughout the game — each outing lasting 33 snaps or less in the process.
