South Carolina transfer RHP Ryder Garino commits to NC State

NC State baseball’s transfer portal activity has begun. The Wolfpack picked up a commitment from South Carolina right-handed pitcher Ryder Garino, he announced via social media Monday afternoon.
The rising sophomore has three years of eligibility remaining after he made 16 appearances for the Gamecocks during the 2025 season. He pitched 24.2 innings, including one start, where he allowed 20 runs (16 earned) on 18 hits with 34 strikeouts to 13 walks en route to a 2-0 record and a 5.84 ERA. Opposing hitters batted just .205 against Garino in his debut collegiate campaign.
Garino posted a season-best 5 strikeouts in three scoreless innings against Queens (N.C.) on Feb. 19 in what was his second collegiate appearance. The righty settled into a bullpen role with the Gamecocks, including five games with 4 or more strikeouts.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound reliever made seven appearances in SEC play, two of which featured 4 strikeouts. He was able to work three no-hit frames against Florida on May 2, which included the quartet of strikeouts with just one walk and an earned run in what tied his longest outing of the season.

Before he arrived in Columbia, S.C., Garino was a standout at Cherry Hill (N.J.) West High, where he was named the 2024 New Jersey Pitcher of the Year after posting a 0.39 ERA with 94 strikeouts and just 3 earned runs in 53 innings pitched as a senior. He was just as dangerous as a junior, fanning 91 batters in 56 innings during the 2023 campaign.
Garino is set to arrive in Raleigh and brings experience to the Wolfpack’s depleted bullpen. His long frame is similar to that of departed right-handed reliever Jaxon Lucas, who entered the portal soon after it opened in early June.
Lucas, who spent two seasons at NC State, tossed 40 innings with 42 strikeouts and 18 walks en route to a 7.42 ERA in 26 career appearances in Raleigh.
