Alberts on the metrics for Scott Frost’s contract:

The FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request for Scott Frost’s restructured contract from USA Today was upheld in local courts this afternoon following the university’s challenge.

Alberts decided to get ahead of the story even though Nebraska has seven days to release the details of the contract. He said he and Frost talked often about incremental progress and that meant at minimum 6-6 and a bowl game to Alberts.

The athletic director said his conversations with head men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg were more informal and that his metrics were never put into writing.

Alberts on the football games behind and the road ahead:

Alberts started the program off by talking about the Huskers two-week stretch of road football games. The athletic director said Nebraska returned to Lincoln at 4:00 a.m. after the Rutgers game and at 2:00 a.m. this week following Purdue.

Overall, Alberts said he is pleased by interim head coach Mickey Joseph and the unity and leadership he has brought to his squad. He still meets with Joseph on a weekly basis and said he was proud of the way the Louisiana native has kept the locker room drama free throughout the head coaching transition.

Alberts on the sellout streak:

Alberts said he is still confident that the sellout streak will continue but there are still a few hundred tickets available for the Huskers’ last three home games. Roughly, there are 200-300 tickets remaining per contest.

A good chunk of the tickets that were recently purchased by a donor for the veteran tickets program and the Red Carpet Experience. Contrary to previous reports, that was not all of the tickets Nebraska had left.

On next season’s football schedule release:

Alberts said a release is imminent.

He will head to Chicago next week for Big Ten meetings. Alberts said he knows there are folks across the country looking forward to the release and he doesn’t think they’ll have to wait much longer.

He anticipates the 2023 football schedule will be public in 7-10 days.

On Nebraska regaining the volleyball attendance record:

Alberts said he and Cook are dreaming/brainstorming ways to get the attendance record back.

He recognizes that fans have thought about an outdoor match at Memorial Stadium. Concepts thrown out included combining it with a concert to make it a, “Celebration of Volleyball” or getting the other Nebraska teams to play matches too (possibly at the same time).

“There’s no doubt in my mind that (the attendance record) belongs in Lincoln, Nebraska,” Alberts said.

For now, it’s just the dreaming phase according to Alberts. But the university has options, even if they aren’t good options in Albert’s word. He also urged fans to be aware of just how good the volleyball team is right now and not to take them for granted.

On basketball season tickets:

Alberts said Nebraska has sold 11,500 season tickets for men’s basketball in addition to several smaller ticket packages. Most of the season tickets are in the 300 level according to Alberts.

The women’s basketball team, which is preseason No. 22 in the AP Poll, has sold 3,200 season tickets.

On improvements to Haymarket Park and Bowlin Stadium:

Alberts said there are improvements coming or in progress for both Nebraska baseball and softball facilities.

A resurfacing of Haymarket Park is already well underway and he added that a padded wall in the outfield will be coming to Bowlin Stadium, the home of Husker softball.
