As one might expect, Mickey Joseph gets a pay increase for taking over Nebraska’s football program as interim head coach.

Joseph, whose base pay is $600,000 annually as a full-time Husker assistant, will receive an additional $33,350 per month in his role as interim head coach. The stipend’s term began Sept. 11.

His new terms stipulate that if Nebraska hires a head coach other than Joseph, he immediately would return to his role as associate head coach and receivers coach.

A breakdown of Joseph’s new contract

As the Huskers’ interim head coach, the 54-year-old Joseph is eligible for the following bonuses:

*** $100,000 for winning or tying for the Big Ten West title without an appearance in or invitation to the Big Ten championship game.

*** $200,000 if Nebraska plays in but does not win the Big Ten championship game.

*** $300,000 if Nebraska captures the Big Ten championship game.

*** $150,000 if Nebraska plays in any bowl game that is not part of the College Football Playoff invitational tournament to determine the national champion.

*** $250,000 if Nebraska plays in any CFB bowl game.

Joseph would be eligible for bonuses ranging from $300,000 to $650,000 if Nebraska were to reach the four-team CFP event.

Meanwhile, Mike Cassano, who was elevated to replace Joseph as Nebraska’s receivers coach, will receive a monthly stipend of $4,595 in addition to his base wage of $117,299.

New terms for Bill Busch (defensive coordinator) and Joey Connors (special-teams coordinator) will be available in coming days. Busch currently makes $400,000 and Connors’s salary was not listed on the official 2022-23 budget since he was a later addition.
