Gretna (Nebraska) offensive lineman Mason Goldman picked up an offer from Nebraska when Mickey Joseph was the interim head coach. The Huskers were sitting on three o-line targets and needed another tackle.

Goldman never planned to commit before the end of his senior year, which allowed some time with Nebraska’s coaching change and Matt Rhule to fill out his staff. Goldman has gelled very quickly with the new staff and has decided to stay home.

Goldman announced his commitment to NU on Monday night.

There has always been a strong desire by Goldman to stay home. The issue began with picking up the offer from Nebraska first. Second, it was about feeling like a priority. That kicked in under Joseph, but it started at a time that Goldman was helping his high school team.

The announcement of Rhule, along with his staff hitting the road and how intently they prioritized Goldman was key. The Sunday recruiting event on Rhule’s first weekend allowed the top in-state recruits with offers to come to Lincoln and meet the staff. They also got to hang out.

Goldman is now one of four in-state offensive linemen in the 2023 commitment class, joining Scottsbluff OT Brock Knutson, Lincoln Southeast IOL Gunnar Gottula and Creighton Prep IOL Sam Sledge. This story is developing and HuskerOnline will bring you more once we catch up with Goldman.
