Nebraska lands in-state speedster Jaylen Lloyd
Omaha (Neb.) Westside wide receiver Jaylen Lloyd was one of the first recruits to pick up an offer from Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule.
Lloyd, who visited Nebraska multiple times during the fall, was not offered under the previous staff. Lloyd was planning on making a commitment that week until he received the offer from Nebraska.
“Nebraska offering it felt good,” Lloyd said following his announcement. “The first staff before that, they kind of just wanted me to run track. That’s why I didn’t have them in my top four that I had listed. The new staff wants me to do both. I really wanted to do that, so that was huge. That was one of the biggest reasons to committing here.”
The Nebraska offer is presumably to play football and run track similar to Brice Turner who is also in the 2023 class. Coach Matt Rhule has clearly been trying to address team speed and overall athleticism of the roster since taking the job at Nebraska.

Lloyd’s commitment makes it 14 in the 2023 class. The Huskers also have a portal commit as well. Lloyd is the sixth, in-state commitment for Nebraska. Lloyd joins offensive linemen Brock Knutson, Gunnar Gottula and Sam Sledge, EDGE Maverick Noonan and kicker Tristan Alvano.
“Being one of the first offers, that I was a priority, that was a big deal to me,” Lloyd said.
“I was actually sick (when Nebraska first offered) and I could not talk. (Rhule) actually called my parents. I really didn’t know how to feel at the time. It was unreal. It changed the game a lot.”
Lloyd’s mother, former Husker track All-American Dahlia Ingram immediately perked up when she found out the news her son was offered.
On Saturday, she busted out her old Nebraska letter-winners jacket.
“She was very excited,” Lloyd said. “She said I have to reschedule and go on an official visit. Just go look at it and give it a chance. That’s what we did. Then when she found out I was coming to Nebraska, she almost cried. She said it’s cool to have a legacy here.”
