Nebraska Women’s Basketball has signed Samford transfer Claire Johnson. The 5-foot-9 guard spent her freshman season with the Bulldogs and will have three years remaining eligibility.

The Paducah, Ky. native averaged 13.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as a freshman in 2024-25. She shot over 47% from field-goal range, 39% from three, and 87.7% from the free-throw line. The freshman was Samford’s leading scorer with 365 points.

Johnson was on the Southern Conference Second Team and the All-Freshman team.

She scored a season-high 30 points against UNC Greensboro on Feb. 2. The freshman shot .563 from the floor, .375 from three and .818 from the free-throw line.

Johnson’s team won 30 or more games at McCracken County High School in her last three seasons.

Adds to an experienced group of Husker guards

Johnson is the third guard from the transfer portal that the Huskers have picked up this offseason. She joins former Northwestern guard Hailey Weaver and Maryland guard Emily Fisher. Former Kansas State forward Eliza Maupin is also transferring to NU.

Sophomore Britt Prince leads Nebraska’s guards and the team. She had a great freshman season in 2024-25 with a high ceiling. Junior Logan Nissley and senior Callin Hake have lots of starting experience and have been solid for the Huskers.

Returning from her third season-ending injury, Allison Weidner hopes to finish her senior season as a major contributor. Guard Kennadi Williams redshirted in 2024-25 as she worked to regain strength after an ACL injury a year prior. With the injuries, guard/forward Amiah Hargrove stepped up in her freshman season and has a bright future.

The Huskers lost seniors Alberte Rimdal and Kendall Moriarty. But with the additions, they must feel good about the guard group.
