To go along with the recent personnel changes under Scott Frost at Nebraska, the Huskers have made recruiting the Kansas City area an important part of their recruiting process.

They scored their first victory on Friday with the commitment of 2023 Peculiar (Mo.) Raymore-Peculiar wide receiver Jaidyn Doss.

The three-star prospect visited Nebraska twice, with the second being an official visit two weeks ago. The Huskers rolled out the red carpet for him on that trip and he left Lincoln with the feeling that he was home.

“I have a lot of support here from people that I know, my friends, that are all Cornhusker fans first,” Doss said. “And it also just feels good there. It felt good there when I was there for my official visit.”

During the official visit, there were several things that gave Doss the feeling that it was the right place for him. Most notably, though, was the time spent interacting with the staff and the team.

“Meeting with the coaches really made me feel comfortable the most when I was on my official visit,” he said. “Also hanging out with the players. That’s the environment that I will be in. It’s felt great.”

Because Doss is in Kansas City, NU special teams coordinator Bill Busch was his lead recruiter.

But Doss was also recruited heavily by associate head coach/receivers coach Mickey Joseph. The two will both coach Doss when he joins them in Lincoln.

“I got so much attention from Nebraska in the recruiting process,” Doss said. “I had Coach Busch recruiting me because of the area that I am in, and I had Coach Joseph recruiting me because I am a receiver.

“But Coach Busch is also the special teams coordinator, and the thing that Nebraska really likes about me the most is my versatility and how many different ways they can get me the ball.”

Busch and Joseph have a plan for Doss, which is to get the ball in his hands and move him around the field as much as possible.

“Nebraska is talking about getting me the football out of the backfield, in the slot, outside receiver, and off of returns,” he said. “I wanted to go somewhere that was trying to find different ways to get me the football.”

Doss announced his commitment after just one official visit. He took several unofficial visit trips, but following the trip to Nebraska, he knew he was a Husker. Despite having other options for officials, Doss said he is done with visits.

“I am done with official visits,” Doss said. “I was close to taking trips to Missouri, Kansas State, and Michigan State. I wasn’t sure on the fifth trip.”

With his recruitment out the way, he plans to play a role in courting others to join him in Nebraska’s 2023 class.

He plans to start out with two friends who visited Lincoln with him, running back Dylan Edwards and offensive tackle Cayden Green. There is another area wide receiver he plans to reach out to as well.

“I do plan on recruiting for Nebraska,” Doss said. “I am planning on recruiting Dylan and Cayden. I am trying. I have never really talked to Joshua Manning that much but we have connected a little bit.”

The newest Nebraska commit said he planned on getting back to Lincoln in June, likely for a big camp weekend, and of course, he plans on getting back for several games in the fall.

“I think that I will be up for one of the camp dates in June to visit, but other than that this summer I am not sure,” Doss said. “I will definitely be back this fall.”

On top of playing a recruiting role for Nebraska, Doss and his Raymore-Peculiar teammates are getting to work this summer with their workouts.

“We go Monday through Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 (a.m.) and then again from 10:00 to 12:00 (p.m.),” Doss said. “It’s our OTA, which is practically practice.”

Doss said that there has been no discussion around graduating early and enrolling at Nebraska in January.
