Class of 2023 five-star EDGE Keon Keeley and his Berkeley Prep teammates had a spring game scrimmage Thursday evening against Zephyrhills (Fla.) Wiregrass Ranch. And by all accounts, it went well with the Notre Dame commit.

“It was a great game,” Keeley told On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power after the contest. “We have a lot of young guys stepping up into big positions. Those guys were able to get a good feel going into next season.”

Power reported that Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington and wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey were in attendance to watch their prized pass rusher commit in person.

“It was cool to have them come see the game,” Keeley added. “They’re supportive, and I’m appreciative of that. They’re telling me to stay focused on school and on the field.”

With June around the corner, everyone wants to know where Keeley will be visiting this summer. He’s been consistent in that interviews with the recruiting media are rare, and when he does talk publicly, he keeps where he may or may not visit close to his vest. But one visit plan is for sure — an official visit to Notre Dame for the weekend of June 10-12, which Keeley confirmed again Thursday evening.

“I just got done with our spring game, so I’m taking things day by day,” Keeley noted. “I’m committed to Notre Dame, and that’s all I really know for the offseason.”

Keeley impresses with pass rush skills and effort

Here is an excerpt of what Power had to say in his report on Keeley’s spring game performance:

Keon Keeley proved to be highly disruptive once the game got going. He was consistently in the backfield and affected the game in a number of ways. Keeley accounted for a sack, several tackles for loss, a batted pass and multiple pressures.

The sack may have been Keeley’s best play of the game, at least from an individual standpoint. He beat the offensive tackle with a quick spin move before closing on the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. For a prospect with considerable physical gifts, Keeley has some pass rush skills and moves that border on advanced for this stage, relative to his peers.

Keeley looks to be focused on making technical strides as a pass rusher and it’s showing on the field. He received coaching from former Florida and NFL star defensive end Kevin Carter (who is an assistant for Berkeley Prep) while on the sidelines between series.

Wiregrass Ranch struggled with low snaps for much of the night. Keeley was in the backfield to mop up the play on most of the errant snaps.
