Newsstand: ESPN compares Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love to Heisman Trophy winner

On Wednesday, ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. released his updated Big Board rankings. And Irish running back Jeremiyah Love was one of the headliners, ranking as the No. 3 overall player and No. 1 running back among draft-eligible players.

“Love reminds me a lot of Reggie Bush,” Kiper said. “The 20-year-old has vision and burst between the tackles and to the outside, and he can break tackles with ease (55 forced missed tackles on the season). Once he gets into space, he can take it to the house with his breakaway speed too.

“But Love isn’t only an outstanding runner. He also is a high-impact pass catcher. An NFL team will be able to flank him out wide and create a whole other dimension of the offense.”

In his latest overall big board, Kiper only ranked the top 25 players. However, he also ranked the top 10 players at each position. And three more Irish players claimed spots there.

Kiper also considers Jadarian Price his No. 2 running back. He also likes offensive lineman Billy Schrauth and wide receiver Malachi Fields as the Nos. 9 and 10 players at their position, respectively. Among outside linebackers, Boubacar Traore just missed the cut in the top 10.

Last year, Notre Dame saw six players drafted, bringing its total to 18 in the Marcus Freeman era. If Kiper’s rankings are correct, the Irish should add at least five more this offseason.

Notre Dame Quote of the Day

“I had my doubts myself, as anybody else would. But I had that discussion, and this is where I want to be. I’m in a great position. I get to see my guys ball. That’s been a big thing. Being able to see their success is an eye-opener. Success is right there in front of me. I just have to be patient. I have a long career ahead, and there’s no rush.”
