After arguably the biggest turnaround in recent college baseball, Notre Dame head coach Link Jarrett is headed home to Tallahassee, Fla.

On Friday, Florida State announced that Jarrett, 50, will take over the program following the dismissal of former head coach Mike Martin Jr. on June 10. ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report the news.

Jarrett is a Florida State alum; he played shortstop for the Seminoles from 1991-94. He is originally from Tallahassee.

“It has been an absolute privilege to represent Notre Dame, which truly is one of the finest academic and athletic institutions in the country,” Jarrett said, per a statement released by Florida State. “I want to thank Father (John) Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick, Jody Sadler and the entire Notre Dame administration for all of their support during my time at Notre Dame. I want to thank all of our student-athletes for their tireless work ethic and dedication to our baseball program.

“Their accomplishments on and off the field are something I will cherish for the rest of my life. To the entire Notre Dame family and community, thank you for welcoming and supporting my family, you are truly first-class in every manner.”

Jarrett arrived in South Bend in 2020, and his inaugural season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. In his second year at the helm, the Irish won the ACC by 4.5 games, finished with a 34-13 record, and reached the Starkville Super Regional before falling to eventual national champion Mississippi State. Jarrett was named the 2021 ACC Coach of the Year.

Notre Dame went 41-18 in 2022 and reached the semifinals of the ACC Championship for the first time since joining the conference in 2014. They fell to North Carolina, who ended up winning the ACC Tournament.

The Irish were controversially left out of the national seeding in the NCAA Tournament, instead heading to the Statesboro Regional to start the postseason, home of Georgia Southern. The Irish swept the regional and headed to the Knoxville Super Regional to face No. 1 overall seed Tennessee. In the biggest upset of the college baseball season, Notre Dame stunned the Volunteers by winning two of three games and punching a ticket to the Men’s College World Series for the first time since 2002 and just the third time in program history.

Jarrett earned National Coach of the Year honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on June 17.

Once arriving in Omaha, Notre Dame won Game 1 with a 7-3 victory over Texas. From that point, the Irish bats struggled to plate runs, falling 6-2 to Oklahoma and 5-1 to Texas A&M. As a result, they were eliminated on Tuesday.
