Notre Dame graduates have been leading innovators in the name, image and likeness (NIL) space to date, and on Monday, two Irish alumni announced a new program to continue to help current student-athletes and universities navigate the murky topic.

MOGL, a platform used to connect college athletes with prospective NIL opportunities, was started by former Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush along with fellow Notre Dame alum Ayden Syal. The team announced Monday that they would be launching the MOGL Monetize™ program, which provides free NIL compliance monitoring and reporting solutions to universities. Included in the package is a compliance dashboard, which would have NIL activity disclosure log information on various NIL transactions. The program seeks to provide equal access to NIL resources to all athletes, a core component of the company’s mission statement.

“Entering Year 2 of NIL, it’s clear that universities need better solutions to protect and support their student-athletes while providing a secure medium for their partners to engage with them,” CEO Syal said, per a company press release. “Many institutions are currently paying exorbitant fees for solutions that lack athlete adoption and equal access for all – MOGL Monetize™ changes that.

“MOGL has been built on the foundation of providing equal opportunity and access for all athletes. We have taken our leading marketplace and made it available for institutions to continue to support their student-athletes”

MOGL has been rapidly gaining national steam, as the team has recently been traveling the country to discuss their endeavors at conferences like the NIL Summit in Atlanta and NACDA in Las Vegas.

“MOGL is unlike any other solution available today because they are truly providing technology that benefits and protects all student-athletes and all institutions,” said Tom Bowen, former athletic director at the University of Memphis. “I can firmly say that their technology, team, and value is the best available in the NIL world.”

After leaving Memphis, Bowen founded Bellwether Athletic Leadership Strategy Company and is now working with MOGL to spread the word about the platform.

In addition to MOGL Monetize™, the team announced the creation of MOGL Master™ on Monday, a comprehensive NIL education course.

“MOGL Master™ provides student-athletes with holistic NIL education and instruction across key verticals like financial literacy, tax guidance, and contract review,” Wimbush said. “As a former student-athlete, I recognize how important it is for athletes to navigate this landscape in an informed manner, so we’ve worked to create solutions to help them and their institutions do that.”

Universities are able to sign up to participate in the monitoring program, and the company anticipates a few dozen participants by the end of the summer, per the press release.

MOGL, which was founded in 2019, operates similarly to a LinkedIn or an Indeed, connecting businesses and brands directly to athletes. The companies are given access to the digital platform, and therefore the athletes, and can list campaigns, marketing opportunities, jobs and other similar things. Additionally, a local company is able to filter the options to a certain school and can invite athletes in that area to apply.

For example, if a local pizza shop wants to launch a new flavor and begin an advertising campaign, they can invite athletes in the vicinity. The companies subsequently wait for applicants.

MOGL has a full-service account management team, which understands the marketing goals of the companies and provides support regarding recruitment and pricing, among other things, similar to a campaign manager.  For MOGL, it’s not just about finding a partner financially beneficial to them. It’s about the athlete.
