When Notre Dame coaches tout their players as some of the most hardworking student-athletes in the country, they’re not fibbing. Especially in the case of recently-departed Notre Dame baseball head coach Link Jarrett.

Jarrett constantly propped up his players for being such great students, and his words were validated Monday in the form of eight All-ACC Academic Team selections. No other team in the conference had that many. It’s the most Notre Dame has had since joining the league in 2014.

Here are the eight Irish players who made the list.

  • John Michael Bertrand, Gr., Business
  • Jack Brannigan, Jr., Finance
  • Ryan Cole, Gr., Business Analytics
  • Jack Findlay, Fr., Undeclared
  • David LaManna, Gr., Nonprofit Administration
  • Zach Prajzner, Sr., Business Analytics
  • Carter Putz, Sr., Management Consulting
  • Austin Temple, Gr., Nonprofit Administration

Bertrand and Temple were Notre Dame’s No. 1 and No. 2 starting pitchers for most of the season. Brannigan, Cole, LaManna, Prajzner and Putz were all starters in the field at their respective positions. Findlay picked up four saves in the NCAA Tournament, including one in the College World Series against Texas.

The Fighting Irish made it to Omaha for the third time in program history. They finished the season with a 41-17 record. Just a few days after the Irish lost an elimination game to Texas A&M, Florida State announced Jarrett as the Seminoles’ new head coach. Jarrett was formally introduced in a press conference Monday, but not before he said a few last great things about the type of players within the Notre Dame program last Tuesday.

“They are a unique species of student-athlete,” Jarrett said after the loss to A&M. “You can forget (the baseball). I mean, that’s why we’re here. But remove the baseball part of it. These are exceptional guys. These are global leaders in the making in the world of finance or whatever field they will be in. That’s where they will end up. To have that group of guys, my focus was on them and not the other stuff.”

The search is on to find Jarrett’s replacement. Whoever it ends up being is inheriting a group of players difficult for Jarrett to say goodbye too, even if it meant he was heading home.
