Peyton Bowen is reportedly locked in on his Notre Dame pledge, but the newly minted 2023 five-star safety out of Denton (Texas) Guyer has spent his summer hopping around to summer camps and taking a few visits to schools. As a result of the exposure and performances, Bowen’s On3 NIL Valuation has made a massive jump since late April from $18,000 to $168,000. In the last two weeks alone, the safety’s NIL Valuation has risen $25,000.

The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Bowen’s NIL Valuation ranks 55th among active high school football players.

The metric is heavily reliant on social media following, activity and engagement. The 6-0, 185-pound safety has approximately 8,500 followers between Instagram and Twitter, and the numbers have increased 2.1 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively, in the last week. His per-post value on all social media is around $162.

In addition to social media following, the NIL opportunities available at one’s school — or in Bowen’s case, at the school he has chosen to attend — are a major component. The recent creation of the Friends of the University of Notre Dame (FUND) collective led to a jump in all current and future Notre Dame players’ NIL Valuation.

Lastly, athletic performance is a major contributor to one’s NIL Valuation, and Bowen’s camp showings this summer were impressive, so much so that On3 bumped him up to a five-star prospect ranked No. 18 in the nation and No. 2 at his position.

“The safety group there was the strongest position group at the event, and Peyton Bowen, in our opinion, was the best safety there,” said Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings. “Part of that is his combination of explosiveness and fluidity. You had some safeties who were pretty fluid but maybe couldn’t run as well, and you have some others that are super twitchy and maybe not as smooth in coverage. Peyton Bowen is both.”

Currently, Bowen has the second-highest NIL Valuation of anyone in his class, trailing only On3 Consensus five-star recruit and EDGE Keon Keeley. Nine of Notre Dame’s 20 2023 commits have an NIL Valuation in excess of $100,000.
