At Blue & Gold, we generally use the On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — when mentioning a Notre Dame recruit’s ranking in articles. Of course, one of those media companies is On3’s own rankings.

And the On3 team updated its 2023 rankings Monday afternoon during an evaluation period that’s also very important for college coaches — early senior tape.

Merrillville (Ind.) Andrean linebacker and Irish commit Drayk Bowen has been outstanding to start his senior season, posting 37 tackles (6.0 for loss), 1 sack, 1 pass deflection, 1 fumble recovery and 1 forced fumble, while also accounting for 336 yards offensively with five touchdowns, all through five games.

Bowen moved up from the No. 234 overall recruit to No. 207 — a jump of 27 spots.

Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab linebacker Jaiden Ausberry is another positive mover. He also stars on both sides of the ball at the prep level and saw a move of 17 spots — up to the nation’s No. 202 recruit in America.

Belmont (N.C.) South Point offensive tackle Sullivan Absher saw a rise of 19 spots and ranks as the No. 58 recruit in America, which is highest among the four recruiting media companies.

If some recruits rise, others must fall. And Hagerstown (Md.) St. James School defensive lineman Devan Houstan saw the biggest drop among the Irish commits, sliding from No. 261 to No. 289 in the national rankings.

Two five-star commits

There are currently 23 prospects who rank as a five-star per On3, and two of them are committed to the Irish. Only LSU, Texas and USC can claim that as well, as things currently stand.

Rock Island (Ill.) Alleman’s Charles Jagusah, who picked Notre Dame over the summer, remains as the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 6 overall player.

Denton (Texas) Guyer’s Peyton Bowen moved up three spots in the national rankings and ranks as the No. 15 player in the land. He’s also the No. 2 safety in America.

More Irish in the national rankings

There are 300 spots in the national rankings at On3, and there are 13 Irish commits who make the cut. Here are the other players on the list who have not been mentioned yet, what their current ranking is and what the change is since On3’s last update.

St. Louis De Smet CB Christian Gray (No. 82, -3)

West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial DL Boubacar Traore (No. 101, -2)

Austin (Texas) Westlake WR Jaden Greathouse (No. 155, -1)

Mentor (Ohio) High DL Brenan Vernon (No. 192, -6)

Round Rock (Texas) Stony Point WR Braylon James (No. 281, +3)

Dropped out of On300: Folsom (Calif.) High WR Rico Flores Jr. (was No. 289) and Irvington (N.J.) High S Adon Shuler (was No. 294).

Notre Dame targets

There are two big Irish targets left in the 2023 class. Hayward (Calif.) Tennyson wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons, who finished up a weekend official visit at Notre Dame Monday morning, made a huge move up of 62 spots in the new rankings.

St. Louis Christian Brothers running back Jeremiyah Love remains the No. 107 player nationally.
