Five months before Notre Dame landed its quarterback commitment in the 2023 class (Kenny Minchey), Saline (Mich.) High’s CJ Carr was already pledged to the Irish for the 2024 cycle.

Carr has been to Notre Dame frequently since his commitment — seven times to be exact — with the main purpose to help recruit other prospects on campus to join him in the Irish’s 2024 class.

On Saturday, he was in South Bend and did just that, and another big aspect of the visit was hanging out with the recruits who are already committed to Notre Dame. The Irish have seven pledges in the 2024 cycle thus far, and they were all on campus, too.

“It was amazing,” Carr told Blue & Gold. “This was one of my favorite visits I’ve taken to Notre Dame. Getting around the ’24 class was amazing. We have a really great group of kids [committed]. I think I had already met everyone, but we hadn’t been all together at one place.

“It was great to be around all of them and also some guys who will hopefully join our class in the coming weeks and months ahead. I’m glad I was able to be around those guys.”

The 6-2.5, 195-pounder, who ranks as the No. 33 overall prospect and No. 5 quarterback per the 2024 On3 Consensus, has been to South Bend 10 times in total. What made the experience Saturday so special?

“It was the fact that we could recruit the players who aren’t committed yet but also, every single commit was there,” he answered. “Being around those guys was great. We’re already so close.

“Coach [Tommy] Rees was telling us about the brotherhood you feel when you do commit. It’s easy to join our group; everyone is comfortable around each other. Karson [Hobbs] was the most recent commit, and he bonded with us just as much as everyone else. It’s easy to be around this group, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

As is always the case, Carr enjoyed spending time with the Notre Dame staff as well.

“It’s always great to see Coach Rees,” he said. “I got to see Coach [Marcus] Freeman, and he was at my school Friday, too. It’s always great to be around the whole coaching staff.”

Carr led Saline High to an 8-3 season in 2022. He had an outstanding junior campaign for the Hornets, completing 222 of 326 passes (68.1 percent) for 2,685 yards with 26 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. On the ground, he ran 70 times for 221 yards and 7 scores.
