The Notre Dame men’s basketball transfer portal carousel continues to spin away from the Irish following head coach Mike Brey’s departure. On Tuesday, freshman forward Dom Campbell announced his commitment to Howard University about two weeks after entering the portal.

Campbell is the latest former Notre Dame player to announce his intentions to play the 2023-24 season elsewhere. On March 14, freshman guard JJ Starling pledged to Syracuse one day after entering the transfer portal.

In addition to Campbell and Starling, guards Robby Carmody and Cormac Ryan entered their names into the transfer portal. Ryan also declared for the NBA draft

The 6-foot-9, 268-pound Campbell appeared in 10 games for the Irish last season, scoring seven combined points and grabbing 12 rebounds. He played a career-high seven minutes and scored a career-best three points in an 81-64 loss against North Carolina on Jan. 7.

A product of Exeter (N.H.) Phillips Exeter Academy, Campbell was On3’s No. 102 overall player, No. 17 center and No. 1 player from New Hampshire in the 2022 recruiting class.

The On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — evaluated Campbell as the No. 128 overall player, No. 19 center and No. 1 player in New Hampshire.

On Friday, Notre Dame announced the hiring of Micah Shrewsberry as its next men’s basketball head coach.
