Opening statement

“Congrats to Notre Dame. They played a really good game. Certainly disappointed. We got beat in every phase. Didn’t play well enough and obviously didn’t coach well enough to win the game. We turned the ball over three times in the first quarter, four times in the first half, five times in the game. You really don’t have a chance against a good team. You don’t hava chance against anybody. So really diappointed there.

“I’m not going to point fingers. I don’t think it was for a lack of an effort. I appreciate our guys. we had a bunch of guys who did not practice all week and came out and gave it everything they had. That is a not an excuse for why we did not win this football game, but I appreciate their effort. Have to look at the tape to see the specifics, but certainly did not play well enough and execute well enough to win the game.”

On Notre Dame’s physicality and rushing attack

“I thought Notre Dame was the biggest offensive line we played all year. I’m not sure it was just physicality. I thought they did some things that we misfit. Missed some tackles. But certainly a really big offensive line and big backs like we talked about earlier in the week.”

On Boston College’s lack of offense vs. Notre Dame’s defense

“We turned the ball over five times. We never got in a rhythm. We were turning the ball over. I just felt like we never got in a rhythm. Obviously in that second half you couldn’t throw the football. It was hard enough in the first half. Then in the second half, I don’t know if you guys could even see what was going on. It was hard to see from the sideline. We’ll have to go back and watch the tape.”

On QB Emmett Morehead’s three INTs

“I’m sure he was a little rattled, but I thought he came back and got himself composed. He kept pushing forward. In the second half, you really couldn’t do much throwing the football. Snow covered the field pretty quickly, and it was pretty windy. We just had to hand the ball off a bunch.”

On this being a reality check for Morehead

“Emmett has played in three games. It’s the message I gave to him and have been preaching to everybody; let’s not judge him off one, two or his third game. Emmett is a really good player who is going to have ups and downs. This isn’t just on Emmett. You don’t just point fingers at Emmett for the turnovers. Did we run the right route? Did we protect it? What were the reasons we threw the interceptions? You always want to blame the quarterback, but where they all his fault? If I had to bet right now without studying the film, I’d say no, they aren’t. Emmett is going to be a really good player. It was just one of those days.”

On thoughts of removing Morehead from the game in the snow

“No. We just started running the ball more.”
