Manti Te’o’s return to Notre Dame last weekend was well chronicled. The official Notre Dame Twitter account made it even more so Wednesday with the release of a behind-the-scenes video showing the ins and outs of Te’o’s visit at his alma mater.

Current Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman introduced Te’o, who recorded 437 career tackles at Notre Dame from 2009-12 and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting in his senior season, to the 2022 team at the beginning of the video. Te’o took it from there as only he could; charismatically and full of alluring charm.

“I sat in those seats, so I’ve literally been where you’ve been,” Te’o said. “Where you are. A lot of times for you guys, you’re in the middle of everything and can’t see the forest for the trees. You know what that means? Picture you’re in a maze and the hedges are 20 feet tall. You’re trying to find your way through this thing and you don’t know what’s what. Should I make this turn? Should I do this?

“I want you to imagine that a helicopter is just able to hover around you for a little bit and there is somebody telling you, ‘Hey, go here. Hey, don’t go down that road. Do this. I’m one of those big bros that’s in that chopper that came back to talk to my little brothers about what it means, what it takes, how it feels, how it should feel.”

Quote of the day

“We certainly looked around. There are a lot of reasons why sometimes transfers work and don’t work. To go through all the reasons why is probably a waste of time at this point. It’s something we looked into. It’s something we had conversations about and with. For reasons in our control and out of our control, it just didn’t happen. That’s that. We continue to press on and move forward.”
