Unless Notre Dame adds a high school prospect from the mountain time zone in the late signing period, a four-year streak will come to an end. This year’s signing class is the first since 2018 to pull players from only three time zones.

The 2022 class hit all four across the continental United States. The 2021 and 2019 groups had players from eastern, central, pacific and Hawaiian time zones. The 2020 class covered all four major ones and Hawaii.

This year’s class, though, does not have a player from the mountain time zone. All but three of the 24 scholarship players who signed Wednesday are from the eastern or central time zone. Still, they represent 14 states and include two natives of Canada playing high school football in America. Here’s a look at each state with a player in the class.

• Texas (4): four-star wide receiver Braylon James, four-star wide receiver Jaden Greathouse, four-star cornerback Micah Bell, three-star receiver Kaleb Smith.

• Illinois (2): four-star offensive tackle Charles Jagusah, three-star interior lineman Chris Terek

• Missouri (2): four-star running back Jeremiyah Love, four-star cornerback Christian Gray

• Virginia (2): four-star athlete Brandyn Hillman, three-star defensive lineman Armel Mukam (from Canada)

• Massachusetts (2): four-star defensive lineman Boubacar Traore, three-star linebacker Preston Zinter

• Ohio (2): four-star defensive lineman Brenan Vernon, four-star safety Ben Minich

• North Carolina (2): four-star offensive tackle Sullivan Absher, three-star interior lineman Sam Pendleton

• California (2): four-star wide receiver Rico Flores Jr., four-star tight end Cooper Flanagan

• Indiana (1): four-star linebacker Drayk Bowen

• Maryland (1): four-star defensive lineman Devan Houstan (from Canada)

• New Jersey (1): four-star safety Adon Shuler

• Louisiana (1): four-star linebacker Jaiden Ausberry

• Tennessee (1): four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey

• Kansas (1): three-star interior lineman Joe Otting

Quote of the Day

“Next, I want to thank Coach Freeman, Coach Golden and Coach O’Leary for their passion, patience and efforts to bring me to South Bend. For most of this year I had truly envisioned my future at Notre Dame. That being said, after deciding to reconsider my final destination, I came to realize that my heart was somewhere else.”
