Two of Notre Dame’s top overall targets tweeted on Wednesday that they will be announcing commitments in the next few days.

Detroit Martin Luther King’s Dante Moore, the No. 8 recruit and No. 4 quarterback per the 2023 On3 Consensus, will make his commitment public this Friday, July 8, on ESPN during the noon ET hour of SportsCenter.

Fort Washington (Md.) DeMatha Catholic’s Jason Moore (no relation), who ranks as the No. 46 overall recruit and No. 5 defensive lineman in the 2023 class, will announce his decision Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.

Will Notre Dame land either?

Notre Dame was considered the team to beat for both during a good portion of both prospects’ recruitment, but in recent weeks, other programs have surged.

Oregon is the team to beat for Dante Moore according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 71.9 percent. The Ducks currently have four expert picks in their favor — from Blue & Gold’s Mike Singer, On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman, and ScoopDuck publisher Justin Hopkins.

Ohio State is the team to beat for Jason Moore at 79.9 percent according to the RPM. It’s been a three-team race between the Buckeyes, Notre Dame and Penn State for several months. The Irish were considered the favorite for a while, but Moore has always been hard to read.

If Notre Dame goes 0-for-2 for both prospects, there’s no doubt that it’ll sting for the Irish. Notre Dame currently has the nation’s No. 1 class per the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. We’ve known that keeping that top spot — let alone staying in the top five — will be very difficult for the Irish, and not landing either prospect would hurt.

But, Irish fans should have some comfort in the fact that the Irish have 2024 quarterback CJ Carr and 2023 five-star EDGE Keon Keeley pledged.

Dante Moore Scouting Summary

“Pocket passer who is one of the more accurate and efficient quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle. Skilled as a touch passer with the ability to layer throws and deliver with accuracy and nuance. Has a quick, natural release that aids in the short passing and RPO game. Shows a good arm both on video and in camp settings. Capable of hitting on deep shots off of play action. Put together a highly efficient and productive junior season in leading Martin Luther King to a state title while completing 73 percent of his passes for over 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns against three interceptions. Does not appear to be quite the athlete or run threat as some of the other top quarterbacks in the cycle at this time. Will need to continue improving his movement skills and foot quickness.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
