Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christian’s Christopher Vizzina, the No. 40 overall player and No. 5 quarterback in the 2023 On3 Consensus, is coming off the board Tuesday afternoon. Vizzina is deciding between a top six of Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Auburn, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia. He will announce his commitment on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. ET at Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, Alabama.

Clemson is considered the favorite to land Vizzina according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 91.3 percent.

At one point in time, Vizzina and Detroit Martin Luther King’s Dante Moore, the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 4 signal-caller per the 2023 On3 Consensus, seemed like a 1A/1B type situation at the top of Notre Dame’s quarterback board, but this type of situation typically works itself out.

On Tuesday, April 12, BlueandGold.com’s Mike Singer joined Darin Pritchett on WSBT Sportsbeat AM to discuss the latest in Notre Dame football recruiting. The main topic of discussion was Vizzina and Moore as all eyes are on Notre Dame’s quest to add an elite talent at the quarterback position. You can listen to the full podcast episode below.

But with Vizzina coming off the board today — and it likely being Clemson — just how important does that make Moore as a target for Notre Dame? Pritchett asked Singer just that question.

“He’s really, really important,” Singer said. “If you want to win a national championship — as we talked about last week on the show — do you want a truck or trailer at quarterback? Do you want a truck to pull along and make your other players better, or do you want a trailer, where your players around the quarterback have to pull him along? Obviously, you want a truck at quarterback.”

And Notre Dame views Moore as a truck who could potentially lead the Fighting Irish to its first national championship since 1988.

Moore’s RPM percentage is leaning towards Notre Dame just about as strongly as Vizzina’s RPM says he’s headed to Clemson. The RPM algorithm, which factors in machine learning, expert predictions, social sentiment, visits, and historical trends to determine where a prospect is leaning, is an ever-changing thing. If folks follow Moore’s RPM closely, they’ll notice that it changes almost daily.

As things currently stand, Notre Dame has the advantage for him at 89.3 percent. But that might be a bit of a bold projection by the algorithm. Oregon, LSU, Michigan and Miami continue to be programs to watch out for in Moore’s recruitment. But Notre Dame does seem to be the team to beat.
