After Lawrence (Mass.) Central Catholic linebacker Preston Zinter committed to Notre Dame Feb. 11, there was a dry spell for new pledges to the Irish for a couple of months.

But since Round Rock (Texas) Stony Point wide receiver Braylon James announced his commitment to Notre Dame — exactly 14 days ago — the Irish have been on a roll of new verbals.

James’ commitment to the Irish is a big one. Not only did the Irish beat out LSU, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and others for the nation’s No. 107 overall player and No. 19 wide receiver per the 2023 On3 Consensus, they landed a talented prospect at a major position of need.

A few days later, the Irish landed an out-of-the-blue commitment from West Bloomfield (Mich.) High’s Brandon Davis-Swain, the No. 94 overall prospect and No. 8 defensive lineman per the On3 Consensus. The 6-3, 245-pounder is Notre Dame’s first pledge of the 2024 cycle.

Davis-Swain committed to the Fighting Irish during his Blue-Gold Game visit April 23, and two days later Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan’s Sam Pendleton — the No. 351 overall player and No. 23 interior offensive lineman according to the 2023 On3 Consensus — announced his pledge to the Irish over Clemson, Michigan and others. Pendleton was Notre Dame’s first offensive line commitment of the 2023 class.

And two days after Pendleton’s announcement, West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial’s Boubacar Traore — the country’s No. 117 overall recruit and No. 15 defensive lineman according to the 2023 On3 Consensus — made his pledge to the Irish while on campus for his first time.

That’s four commitments for Notre Dame in the past couple weeks. Are more commitments on the way?

On Tuesday, May 3, BlueandGold.com’s Mike Singer joined Darin Pritchett on WSBT Sportsbeat AM to discuss this topic and more.

“These March and April visits lead to May commitments a lot of time,” Singer said. “Let’s set the over/under on May commitments at 2.5 … I’m expecting to see a few more commitments here soon, and then June will be a massive month. … The June 10 weekend will be a big one; nearly all of Notre Dame’s commits will be on campus, as well as many of its targets.

“And then you’ll see (late summer) commitments as kids like to knock out their decision before the start of their senior year, and Notre Dame wants to be mostly wrapped up with recruiting before the start of the season as well.”

Notre Dame currently has 11 commitments in its 2023 class.
